Greetings!

This is my first blog so please excuse the rough edges.  First, I thought I would introduce myself so that you may have a general take on what I am all about and where I am coming from.

My name is Angie, I am employed by MYSELF and I am the best employer I have ever had.  Quite simply, I LOVE what I do and those that receive my services LOVE what I do as well.   My drive to work is not a long one, in fact I don’t get in a vehicle at all to get where I am going. I simply trot down the stairs to my quaint establishment, SHEARS, where the fun awaits me.  I have a wonderful son, Zachary, who is now 19 years of age.  Most of my clients know Zach and have taken quite a shine to him and he to them.  Yes, when you come visit us at Shears, you become like family!

Each day presents new challenges; for each client is different with their own special needs and expectations. Along with that comes meeting the task of which they came to see me for.  Each head of hair being unique to everyone; I am allowed to create their own special look that is seen by all they meet. Truly a privilege indeed.  I am privy to exciting tales of travel, family events, celebrations, as well as stories of woe, tears of sadness and all subjects in between. I am a councilor when needed, a friend, a keeper of secrets and an entertainer as well.

Most may say, “How hard can it be to cut hair? After all it is simply a skill of know how.” I don’t think many think too deeply about their stylist and what is truly involved if you want to be really good at it and LOVE doing it.  So many things have to be taken into account when meeting and satisfying my clients.  Sure, you could go to an assembly line salon, pay a lesser price for your service and maybe every so often be satisfied with your hair.  Seems like a simple, cut and dry service right?  Get it?  Cut and dry. . . Well if you keep reading I will enlighten you as to what takes place when you come to SHEARS!

When YOU walk  through my door, from the second one enters Shears, the adventure begins.
As soon as our eyes meet, a wide smile will occupy my face as I greet you! ” HELLO there!   “How may I serve you today?” From that moment on, I am reading your body language, the look on your face, tone of voice and so on. I adjust my expressions to fit each individual. Some may be shy, so I will go out of my way to make them feel welcome;   Some, stand-offish, unsure of my skill level; Others too could be coming from a  bad past experience received from another establishment. Whatever the case may be, I am all over it! I WANT YOU TO FEEL WELCOME and at home from the minute you step inside. Now comes the challenge. Figuring out what YOU, the client wants and how I can best deliver exactly that!

After serving you your coffee, we look through a few books for ideas on what you are looking for.  Sometimes it can be several pictures combined that will make up your new look or perhaps you find the exact style you want in a single photo.  All the while, I am looking at the cut and how your current style presents itself.  I try to incorporate what you say you like about the photo and figure out if your type of hair is suitable for said style and/or if you will realistically be able to keep this look up on your own.  We agree on a style for you and it’s off to the shampoo bowl!

Now you are washed and towel dried and perched in the chair where it all happens, and I am presented with the task of actually being able to come through with your new look.   I will now proceed to create your look while holding a meaningful chat with you. While I snip away at your hair, we have conversations that will bounce from one subject to another. I will ask you about your styling habits; Do you blow dry your hair? What products do you currently use? How long do you have to get ready in the morning? Etc.  I will also instruct you in more efficient and economical ways to reach your style at home.  After all, everyone wants to look as good, EVERY DAY, as they do when they step out of my chair.

At this stage of the process, we are conversing freely about a multitude of subjects, and you feel comfortable to say what you REALLY want to say about your hair and sometimes other issues in life in general.  Most feel comfortable almost immediately upon entering Shears.  However, some take a bit longer.  Either way – My top priority is to make sure you feel at ease enough to tell me what your expectations are and I will do my best to meet them!

After an in depth styling lesson on what products you should use when doing your hair at home and showing you exactly how to do it; I am finished! Now you are looking at the new YOU!  You are quite satisfied with what you see and so am I.  A smile of satisfaction spreads across YOUR FACE now.  I sigh of relief escapes my lips as I hear what I have hoped I would;  “I LOVE IT!”  Now I get the warm fuzzies that naturally follow creative accomplishment and with seeing a client happy; feeling at ease and better equipped to go back into their daily grind with a little more confidence!  I tell you truly. . . that is my absolute favorite part of doing hair. Providing you with a warm, cozy atmosphere; and producing a look that suits you, as well as one you LOVE!  What better job is there?  I think – NONE!  For me anyway.

So next time you are thinking about enhancing your beauty – whether it be an eyebrow wax, haircut, highlight, or whatever you may need;  Come on in to Shears, where we are doing . . .

“Common Things. . . Uncommonly Well”.  See You Soon
